BREWING

GREAT BEERS START HERE

Skagit Valley Malting is creating a new malting paradigm, providing discerning brewers with Single Variety Malts that highlight varietal flavor, character and brewing performance.

Our malts – naturally lower in protein than those from commodity growing regions due to the Skagit Valley’s unique maritime climate, healthy soil, and the varieties particularly well-suited to growing here – perform better for craft brewing and distilling. The Skagit Valley region produces barley with characteristics similar to UK or German barleys, yet providing brewers with greater control over wort composition and appropriate levels of protein artifacts, such as FAN and other solubles that can cause excessive color, hazing or flavor instability.

Here, malt process versatility extends beyond variety and grain type into malt style as well. Our patented malting systems produce highly uniform, precision batches that range from low-color, lightly modified base malts to highly kilned Munichs, melanoidins and caramels. And to take your flavor options and product range even further, we regularly produce smoked, peated, organic and low-gluten malts as well.
