Introducing the Craft Malt Seal
Introducing the Craft Malt Seal
As a part of the Craft Maltsters Guild, Skagit Valley Malting is launching efforts to get customers certified to use the Craft Malt Seal.
Criteria for breweries, distilleries, beers, and distilled products are all the same - if you are a member of the Craft Maltsters Guild and use more than 10% of your grain by weight from a craft maltster, you qualify to use the seal!
By using the Craft Malt Seal on packages, in taprooms, and in marketing materials, breweries and distilleries can showcase their support for local and sustainable grain economies.
The seal is a perfect way to educate customers about the sourcing of ingredients in the products they consume. You’re brewing a craft product, showcase your support of those ingredients all the way through.
Lantern Brewing is the first of our customers to showcase their commitment to local ingredients in this way and share how important it is to their marketing strategy and branding. From Lantern:
Beer doesn’t have a soul without being tied to a place. Using local ingredients anchors beer to the land and gives it a local identity. We make Belgian-style beers in Seattle. To give them an authentic sense of place, we use local Cascadian ingredients.
As consumers look more and more at ethical and sustainable purchasing choices, it’s important for us to tell the story of our network of long term, sustainable relationships, including where our ingredients come from.
It’s easy to sign up to use the Craft Malt Seal. Join the Craft Maltsters Guild, verify with your local Craft Maltster that you are using >10% by weight of craft malt in your products, and sign a licensing agreement to use the seal.
